Ending in 1979, the Cambodian genocide went undocumented and was seldom talked about for many years. It was finally in 2007 that a tribunal was held by the United Nations which acknowledged evidence of crimes against humanity and genocide due to the Khmer Rouge. In 2010, a chief member of the Khmer Rouge was found responsible for the murdering of an estimated 16,000 Cambodians, earning him 35 years in prison.
However, as for Pol Pot, he was never convicted for any crimes and died of natural causes in 1998.
